Me First And The Gimme Gimmes Interview...

... with Jackson, the guitar player from Me first and the Gimme Gimmes.

Q: Do you like interviews or does this get boring to you?
A: Oh no, I don't mind, they can be fine.
Q: ... kinda getting on your nerves?
A: NO!
Q: I've been told that you go to school every day...
A: No more, it's finished now since 1,5 weeks!
Q: What are you doing now - are you doing a job or something like that?
A: Actually, we are making a new album with No Use For A Name!
Q: How can you manage this...playing in two bands ? I think it's very difficult, touring, playing shows, going in the studio... A: Well we're never really touring with the Gimmegimmes... we're only doing it when we have time...you know, it's a joke. It's only a side-project.
Q: But you've been in Germany...?
A: Yes but we've been doing only one show, in Berlin and it was really cool...
Q: Is there any free-/or sparetime for doing other kinda hobbies or time for a job?
A: I don't really have time to have a job but hobbies yeah...kind of...
Q: What's with the other bandmembers...are they working beside playing in a band ?
A: Nono, no one has time to have a job, they just play in a band... if we are touring we leave home for weeks or months...so that's not possible.
Q: Can you live by the music?
A: Yes fortunately we can!
Q: Are you involved in the business-part - do you get information about the recordselling and the customer-feedback ?
A: Absolutely!!! We get informed about everything what's going on and we keep always good contact to fatwreck...they are good friends to us!
Q: Can you compare the recordsellings in America with Europe?
A: Yes - these are the two biggest markets and we sell there most of our records...and we sell about the same in both.
Q: What's about the audience...is the European very different to the American?
A: The people are very different, but the show is more or less the same. It's different obviously cause they're different cultures but when the show is happening it's pretty much the same.
Q: Who is responsible for choosing the songs... Maybe from the new release science fiction or over the rainbow?
A: I think Mike and Joe have most of the ideas. We're listening to a lot of different songs and we choose the best.
Q: Is there any message that you want to tell the kids who are coming to your shows?
A: No, none, just get drunk and have a good time - there's nothing political about the gimmegimmes it's just a joke you know - only attended for fun and there is no message involved!
Q: Personally about violence or how to start a band?
A: Don't bother - to big pain in the ass - that would be my message!
Q: Do you like touring or does it ever get boring ?
A: Sometimes it get's boring but sometimes it's really fun.
Q: ...and isn't it difficult for you to be together with the others for such a long time?
A: Yeah, that sucks...after a while everybody get's on your nerves. You can imagine that's like beeing on together with your family for such a long time.
Q: What do you think about kinda kickboxing in the pit and other violent actions ?
A: Yes it can be..... you see less of violence in Europe actually than you do in the States. Maybe more violent here and people who want to start fights and stuff...last summer we played a lot of festivals and I never saw any fights...and usually at festivals like that here you see a lot fights. Maybe it's more peaceful in Europe, I don't have an explanation for that but that's just the way it is.
Q: What kinda music do you like privately?
A: Kinda punk and yeah, the whole fatwreck-stuff, only fatwreck-stuff...
Q: Do you like any hc/old or new-school stuff like morning again or sick of it all?
A: Sick of it all, they are on fatwreck! And everything that is new on Fatwreck.
Q: What do you think about straight edge?
A: Well I'm living like didn't smoke (no cigarettes, no pot, nothing) or drink for months...and I think it's ok but I would never consider me to a scene. - don't tell me how to live my life !!!
Q: Please tell me, what do you think about animal rights, direct action, the ALF, vegetarian or vegan lifestyle?
A: Well, it's necessary. I think it's good - I don't know very much about the ALF but I think what they do is good. And for me I'm not vegetarian but most of the time I eat vegetarian stuff.
Q: Are you interested in politics and in case if, whats your opinion to the Kosovo-conflict? (the interview took place at the first days in june...)
A: I don't think that we get the right or all information. It's all given by the pentagon and of course I think that Milosevic must be stopped but I think that this is the wrong way to stop him. What we do is wrong. by Anke
