Shifty is Nifty recently had a Q&A with Shifty himself, Chris Shiflett. We hope you enjoy this! Five Questions With Chris
(1) U2's my favorite band. I know that you, Scott, and Doug are all fans (another reason to love you all) of them. So, from one fan to another: do you prefer The Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby? That's a tough one. To be honest, I didn't like U2 when Joshua Tree came out. It was Achtung Baby that really turned me on to them and thru that album I went back and got into their earlier ones. I guess Achtung Baby means more to me.
(2) Could you give Scott's fans an update on how he's doing these days, post-Face to Face Farewell tour? Is he keeping busy? Did you get to see one of his farewell shows? I saw them in Toronto; they were fantastic! Yes, I saw one of their shows here in LA at the end of that tour. It was great cuz a lot of our family went. He's doing fine but he did have a bad cold last week.
(3) What has been the most rewarding aspect of having your own band, Jackson United, and then what has been the most disappointing/frustrating? The most rewarding aspect of the band is touring all over the world. It's pretty great to wind up driving around Japan in a van playing some songs you wrote in your garage to a bunch of kids you've never met before. That helps take the sting off of the disapointing stuff, and by far the most disapointing/frustrating thing so far has been how long it's taken to get our cd out here in the states. It's fine now cuz I'm doing it myself. Shoulda done that a long time ago.
(4) So many of the kids you grew up with--Joey Cape, Marko DeSantis, Luke Tierney, Steve Cougar and more all gained different levels of success in music. Was there something in that Santa Barbara water? Sheer talent? Did you ever imagine that you all would continue with music and still be friends all these years later? Ya, that's a funny thing! We had a great little music scene growing up, y'know? It's great that everyone's still active one way or another.
(5) Bono has said that having children has made him angrier about the state of the world and more active in politics. Do you feel the same way about being a father? Are you worried about the state of the nation that Liam will grow up in or do you have hope for his generation to turn things around? Absolutely. Parenthood brings all sorts of things into focus.
