Christopher Aubrey Shiflett was born May 6, 1971, in Santa Barbara, Ca. ((or Los Angeles--it depends on where you read it from)). At the age of 11 he was inspired by his two older brothers, Mike and Scott, to pick up the guitar. Besides his brothers, Chris says he's been inspired by many other musicians since he likes all types of music. He says his top list of guitarists would probably be Brian Setzer, Randy Rhoads, and Ace Frehley. Thanks to the influence of those two brothers, the world has been graced with a very talented guitar player, who can not stand keeping his talents in just one band. A current member of the Foo Fighters, Chris has played with more bands than I think I can count, but I'll try. He was a member of No Use For A Name since 1995 before he joined the Foos in August of 1999. He did reunite with NUFAN for one song in March of 2000, however. He has also played on tours with 22 Jacks and Lagwagon. His guitar playing is featured on Swingin' Utters and Ten Foot Pole albums as well. Shiflett's alter ego Jake Jackson is a founding member of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, punk's favorite cover band. The band formed in 1995 with Jackson and Joey Cape ((Lagwagon)) both on guitar, Fat Mike ((NOFX)), Dave Raun ((Lagwagon)) on drums, and Spike Slawson ((Swingin' Utters)) on vocals. MFATGG's first show was in April of 1996, and they travelled the whole Warped Tour in 2001, although Chris wasn't on the last few dates. Chris' other nickname is LCC, although I have no idea what it means. Chris and Scott ((who plays bass in Face to Face)) have played in a few bands together, including Lost Kittenz, SilverJet, Green Thumb, Black Market Elvis, as well as 22 Jacks. Most recently they paired up in Viva Death along with Face to Face's Trever Keith and A Perfect Circle's Josh Freese. The self-titled album was released in September of 2002. Apparently, there's also a family band called the Norbeckers that like to play around Christmas-time. And let us not forget Lost Kittenz, the glam rock band Chris was in at age 17 along with current members of Sugarcult, Nerf Herder, and PEN15. Heh. Also Chris, Scott and Pete Parada (drummer for Face to Face) has created another side project called Jackson, which has since added a guitarist (Doug Sangalang), a new bassist (Omen Starr) and a new drummer (Cary Lascala), gotten a new name (Jackson United ©) and released an EP as well as a full-length album that's only available to the Aussies at the moment. Chris has shown his musical prowess by playing bass for Nate Mendel when Nate was sick. Mr. Shiflett is also a boxer. He became interested in boxing thanks to Steve Martin, the Foos' publicist, who Chris recently beat up in an exhibition boxing match. =) Chris says that his favorite songs to play are the ones the Foo Fighters are currently recording, and that new music is always the most fun. I believe that only good things are yet to come from this talented musician. *grins* Want some Scott? |
